Our Running Projects

✨ KTSSC’s Education Support Program: Giving Children a Future

Education Support Program: Giving Children a Future

Education support for primary and secondary school is the core mission of KTSSC. Since inception, the program has supported over 750 children and youth in Mathare slums and other marginalized areas of Kenya.

For many families, poverty makes education nearly impossible. Parents cannot afford school fees, and children are often forced to work to support household income. Even when enrolled, state curricula often fail to address the realities of slum life, leaving young people disconnected and vulnerable. Without safe spaces to study or access to relevant learning, the cycle of poverty continues.

KTSSC’s Approach

KTSSC believes that education, mentorship, and entrepreneurship are the most effective ways to engage at-risk youth and break the cycle of poverty.

  • The program provides school fees, teaching materials, and guidance counseling for children and families.
  • Regular home and school visits ensure tailored support, uplifting self-esteem, motivation, and resilience.
  • Counseling sessions help children and parents embrace self-acceptance and dignity, fostering holistic personal development.

Current Need

There are 50 destitute and orphan children on the waiting list in dire need of support. Educating one child for a full academic year requires €550.

Your Role

By sponsoring a child, you give them the chance to learn, grow, and escape poverty. Every contribution restores dignity and opens doors to a brighter future.

👉 Partner with KTSSC today—educate a child, transform a community.

✨ KTSSC’s Mathare Youth Empowerment Programme (MYEP)

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty for Mathare Youth

High unemployment in Mathare slums forces many young people into crime and gang violence, leaving communities unsafe and families displaced. According to development experts, limited access to education—caused by financial constraints and irrelevant curricula—further traps children in poverty.

As rural populations migrate to cities in search of opportunity, urban infrastructure struggles to keep up. Without effective policies and support, slum youth remain disconnected from state authorities and vulnerable to exploitation.

KTSSC’s Mathare Youth Empowerment Programme (MYEP)

KenToledo Social Service Club (KTSSC) believes that education, mentorship, and entrepreneurship are key to breaking this cycle.

  • The Mathare Youth Empowerment Programme (MYEP) has already helped over 200 youth gain employment or self-employment.
  • Through vocational training, young people acquire practical skills, confidence, and pathways to sustainable livelihoods.
  • Fully training and equipping one youth participant costs €800.

Why Your Support Matters

Every euro invested in youth empowerment transforms lives, reduces crime, and builds safer, stronger communities. By supporting MYEP, you help young people in Mathare reclaim their future and contribute positively to society.

👉 Donate today to empower a youth, uplift Mathare, and invest in Kenya’s future.

✨ KTSSC’s Mathare Women Empowerment Project(MWEP)

Women and Children in Mathare: Living on the Edge

Life in Mathare slums is marked by overcrowding, poor sanitation, and unsafe living conditions. Families share limited resources such as communal latrines and food vendors squeezed into narrow spaces. Poor waste disposal exposes children to dangerous environments—some even play with discarded sanitary pads, leading to illness and fatalities.

International voices, including UN officials, have raised concern over the lack of electricity, safety, and basic services, which disproportionately affect women and children. In Nairobi’s slums, children are 2.5 times more likely to die before age five compared to other parts of the city.

Healthcare and nutrition remain critical challenges. Many young mothers cannot provide adequate food, resulting in widespread malnutrition. Rising food prices have deepened poverty, leaving families unable to afford essentials. With no land for cultivation, residents rely entirely on market purchases, making them vulnerable to soaring costs.

KTSSC’s Mathare Women Empowerment Project

To address these challenges, KenToledo Social Service Club (KTSSC) launched the Mathare Women Empowerment Project.

  • 80 underprivileged mothers have already been trained in entrepreneurial skills.
  • The program equips women with tools to start small businesses, generate income, and provide for their families.
  • Supporting one woman to launch her business requires €650.

Your Role in Transforming Lives

By empowering mothers, we strengthen families and protect children from the devastating effects of poverty. Every contribution helps a woman in Mathare gain independence, dignity, and the ability to secure a healthier future for her children.

✨ KTSSC’s Teenage Mother Sustenance Program

🌍 Breaking the Cycle of Teenage Pregnancy in Mathare

Mathare slums in Nairobi face deep challenges of poverty, overcrowding, poor housing, and limited access to healthcare. The Covid-19 pandemic worsened these struggles, triggering an alarming rise in teenage pregnancies. In just five months of 2020, 11,795 girls aged 10–19 in Nairobi County were reported pregnant—the highest in Kenya.

Teenage pregnancy perpetuates poverty, denying girls education, dignity, and opportunity. Many are forced into early motherhood due to lack of information, sexual violence, school dropout, and economic hardship. Vulnerable girls often engage in transactional sex just to survive, making them easy targets for exploitation.

 KTSSC’s Teenage Mother Sustenance Program

KenToledo Social Service Club (KTSSC), with support from Fastenaktion, is responding to this crisis by empowering teenage mothers in Mathare.

  • 125 teenage mothers have already been trained and mentored.
  • The program equips them with survival skills, education, and economic empowerment.
  • It restores dignity, self-esteem, and hope for a brighter future.

💡 Why Your Support Matters

To fully train, mentor, and empower one teenage mother, it requires €750. Your contribution helps break the cycle of poverty and gives a young mother the tools to build a life of dignity and opportunity.

🤝 Join Us

Together, we can transform lives in Mathare. By supporting KTSSC, you are not just helping teenage mothers—you are investing in Kenya’s future.

Family Relocation Program: Restoring Dignity Beyond the Slums

Our visit to Mama Wambui, an elderly grandmother caring for two young granddaughters after losing her daughter to HIV/AIDS, inspired KTSSC’s Family Relocation Program. Unable to work, her grandchildren dropped out of school to beg on the streets for survival. Mama Wambui expressed her wish to return to her ancestral land—a dream shared by many slum dwellers who long for dignity and peace outside Mathare.

KTSSC’s Response

KTSSC recognized that some families in Mathare own rural land but lack the means to relocate. With international partners, we launched a pilot project in 2018, successfully relocating 8 families to safer rural settings.

  • Families are provided with permanent houses and socio-economic support to restart their lives.
  • Relocation offers a healthier environment, away from the stigma and desperation of slum life.
  • The program aligns with Kenya’s Vision 2030, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and poverty eradication strategies.

The Need

To build a single permanent house for a relocated family requires €14,000. Each relocation transforms lives—giving children a chance to return to school, families a chance to farm or work, and communities a chance to heal.

Your Role

By supporting the Family Relocation Program, you help families escape the cycle of poverty and reclaim dignity in their ancestral homes.

👉 Donate today to build a home, restore hope, and transform lives.
